This practice is built on one idea: story changes what people do.
One Cloud Digital applies documentary discipline to digital strategy. Not a metaphor. A direct transfer of skills from one medium to another.
Where this comes from
I've spent most of my career in two connected disciplines: documentary film and content-driven marketing. For over a decade, I co-founded and led Ming Media, a boutique marketing and production company in Pennsylvania. The work was built on one idea: the right story, told clearly, creates reach that paid placement cannot match.
Both disciplines require the same skill. Figure out what a story is actually about. Strip away everything that isn't essential. Then communicate it to someone who has no reason to care yet. That is the same problem every small business website has. A few seconds to answer a question the visitor hasn't asked out loud: why does this matter to me? Most websites answer the wrong question. They describe what the organization does from the inside, not what the visitor is looking for from the outside.
I started focusing on search and digital visibility because I kept watching good organizations lose ground to louder, less careful competitors. Their work was better. The problem was that the right people couldn't find it.
Ming Media, Sawyer Media and 1CloudDigital
1CloudDigital grew out of work that began at Ming Media and continued through Sawyer Media, the production and strategy company I founded in Pennsylvania. For years, helping clients get found online was part of a broader service: we built the story and then built the digital presence to carry it.
Then AI and machine-driven search changed everything. Most small businesses didn't see the shift coming. Many still don't know it happened. The platforms they relied on quietly stopped delivering. Their digital presence became invisible to the tools now driving most discovery.
1CloudDigital is a direct response to that gap. The mission is to reconnect small businesses, farms, organizations, churches and community institutions to the broader network, so they can be as great as the people who depend on them need them to be. If your primary need is a better website and more of the right people finding you, this is the right conversation. For film, documentary or broader production work, that lives on the Sawyer Media side.
How we approach the work
Every project starts with understanding what someone is actually trying to accomplish. A client sometimes asks for a new website when the real problem is that their current site doesn't say what they do clearly enough. Sometimes the SEO is fine and the page itself loses people in seconds. We diagnose before we prescribe.
We work with a small number of clients at a time. That is a constraint we choose, not a pitch. The work requires sustained attention and we don't spread it thin. If the timing doesn't work, we'll say so directly.
We don't use templates or shortcuts, and we don't make claims we can't support. Search engines control their own results. AI platforms decide their own citations. We build the best possible foundation for both. We cannot promise outcomes that depend on decisions those platforms make on their own.
Who we work with
Small businesses, community organizations, nonprofits and independent professionals who do genuinely good work and haven't figured out how to make it findable. The ideal client isn't necessarily the one with the biggest budget; it's the one where the underlying story is worth telling and the people running it are ready to invest in clarity.
We're based in Pennsylvania and work remotely with clients across the country. We don't need to be in your city to understand your business. We do need to understand what you're actually trying to do before we start building anything.
